Unlike the mechanical trackball "mice of yore" that skip, stick, and need to be cleaned, the Microsoft D68-00007 TrackBall Explorer introduces an entirely new trackball featuring optical sensor technology.

Reading through dirt, dust, and fingerprints, the optical sensor tracks the movement of the ball 1,500 times per second, giving you smooth, precise control. The Trackball Explorer comes with two additional buttons located on the side of the device--for a total of five buttons--for moving forward and back quickly in your browser, or you can program them.

It also features a wheel for efficient scrolling and zooming and is ergonomically designed to support the natural position of your hand as you use your index finger to control the trackball. Microsoft Trackball Explorer Mouse is the best pointing device I have ever used. I had before this. And they were showing their age. After 20 years of hard use, what does one expect? This one came in perfect condition. I think the box was a European version. It has English, French, and German on it. The box mentions being Windows 98 compatible. I plugged it into my very new iMac and it works!!!!!

The ball rolls with no effort. The button click. The wheel rolls. I didn't have to change a single setting. PLEASE COME BACK! After more than 15 years, my trackball is hanging in there. I enjoy its shape. It’s perfect for my small hands. It’s also perfect for my husband's big hands. When I first got it, I had a ganglion cyst and was in pain. My goal was to reduce pressure on my index finger by clicking with my thumb.

It worked. I eventually healed and never went back to a regular mouse. We had two. After one kicked the bucket, my husband replaced it with a Kensington Orbit Trackball. He is pleased enough, but MSTE is still our favorite. This year I finally became desperate and looked again. I was willing to pay a lot more! Found it!! At a good price too. So happy!! Works so well that it even cured a pain that was developing in my hand.

A benefit that I didn’t even imagine!! Our son likes the Tracker so I bought him one for Christmas and he’s as happy as I am. My fingers, hands nor wrist have hurt since using one several years ago. I simply use it on my main PC for work and playing simple games when having to wait for something. I do not know why Microsoft discontinued making this mouse. Mice sucked.

They just do. How many times do you reach the end of your mouse pad before you get the pointer where you want it? Then you have to pick up your mouse, move it to the middle of the pad, and keep going. What a pain. The solution is a trackball. Of the trackballs I have tried, this one is by far the most ergonomic and comfortable to use. The layout of the ball versus the buttons is brilliant, and the contour of the device fits the hand perfectly.

You don't want a trackball where the thumb controls the ball. You're just begging for tendon problems. The thumb is not for points. This one puts the click button under the thumb, and the index finger controls the ball. It's great. However, its ergo-ness is designed for righties. South-paws probably won't like it (though Logitech has some that are ambidextrous). And what's really cool is that you can reassign the buttons if you don't like the defaults (though the defaults are pretty good).

Microsoft Trackball Explorer Mouse is easily the best pointing device I've ever used. A much better trackball than those offered currently by other companies. Microsoft should again make this product available for sale!!! The used one I bought as a backup spare though very expensive still works well. As an avid computer user, gamer, and professional Web Programmer, I spend a LOT of time on my computer.
