I bought Yamaha EF2000iSv2 – Portable Inverter Generators. I ran it for an hour or so,l put it up, and never maintained it. Of course, it wouldn't start. With Hurricane Florence approaching, I was inspired to try to get it running. First, I found the spark plug gummed up. I replaced it. I found a youtube video on how to remove the carburetor and used it to disassemble the unit. Now here's a tip. You might not have to remove the carb to fix it.
With the fuel shutoff, drain and remove the bowl. Clean any debris from the bowl. Mine had a thick layer of old oil that looked like a gasket in the bottom! Now, here's the tip - On the side of the fuel uptake is a small brass screw. This is the jet, and it has a tiny hole through it that can clog. I ran a piece of fine strand wire through it to clear. This is an "unusual" jet design that I didn't see a video on.
There is no venturi to remove in the fuel uptake, as I call it. Once you clear this screw, reassemble. Make a mixture of gas to Seafoam at a ratio of 2 to 1 and pour into your tank. Crank the generator - it should now run. Run for ten minutes or so and shut down. Allow that mixture to sit overnight and you should be good to go. I was able to get mine running and I am by no means a mechanic.
Just take your time and Yamaha EF2000iSv2 – Portable Inverter Generators will work out! One small complaint I do have is that I'm disappointed in Yamaha outsourcing to China. I've heard Honda did the same but haven't verified this. If Honda is still made in Japan I'd have gone that way in retrospect. Though I really like the fuel shut-off and gauge on the Yamaha. That is what sold me. The cast-iron cylinder and metal valve train are also nice.
I added the Motocross Hardline hour meter and the magnetic oil pick-up. The initial oil fill was exactly 400ml of 0W-30 Royal Purple Break-in Oil. I'll switch to Castrol 0W-40 synthetic European SN-rated oil (German made) after a 20-hour break-in. I'll also break in with ethanol-free fuel (Trufuel, Husqvarna, VPT4, etc). I had the earlier model and found it to be very reliable and easy to start in an emergency situation.
I decided to buy a second unit and the twinning cables to allow me to run my heating furnace fan in case of a power outage during the heating season. You can spend a lot less money for a higher output inverter type generator but I doubt you will get the equivalent quality. One of the best features is its; lightweight and compact size.
Won’t take up too much space in your garage or shed. I've been through 3 hurricanes losing power for a week each time. I need to be able to keep my refrigerator cold and a fan to sleep at night hook up to the Internet using the smallest amount of fuel. During these times I can only get out by boat so being able to manage on less than 1 gallon of fuel a day is great.
I sure wanted a 5kw for less money but fuel consumption won the day. Oh, I have a Yamaha motorcycle. And a Yamaha gas golf cart. Not 1 problem with any of them. Think long and hard about fuel consumption and reliability when purchasing. Yamaha EF2000iSv2 – Portable Inverter Generators are also very quiet. You can hear it run but it is not totally distracting like the larger units.
From The Manufacturer:
Upgraded, Power-Packed, Quiet, and Lightweight
Yamaha EF2000iSv2 – Portable Inverter Generators quietly powers a wider range of applications for an extended time, while still portable and retro-cool. The completely new controller with advanced programming gives the EF2000iSv2 the ability to power a much wider range of applications than the previous generation EF2000iS. Product Update:
The generator can only operate continuously at about 1600 watts, if each warmer is rated at less than 800 watts each, yes. It basically is as good as a house circuit that has a 15 amp circuit breaker. Most garage and wall plug outlets of a house are usually 15 amp breakers.
