Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse might not prevent or cure repetitive stress injuries, but the Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel is still pretty comfortable and easy to use.
This odd-looking trackball is thumb-operated and is both Mac and PC compatible, making it a great choice for anyone in search of a better mouse. Unfortunately for lefties, this one is strictly for right-handed users. Installation of the TrackMan Marble Wheel is a no-brainer. Simply install the drivers and plug the mouse into either a free USB or PS/2 port using the supplied adapter.
If you do opt for the USB connection and you use a PC, be sure to have your Windows 98 CD handy, as you'll need it to load drivers. As soon as you've installed the mouse, you can configure Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse using Logitech's MouseWare software. For those who are either used to a traditional mouse or who have used a finger-operated scroll wheel, the TrackMan Marble Wheel may take some getting used to.

The wheel of the Logitech Trackman Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse is very tight, which makes scrolling through web pages or long documents rough. If you are not comfortable using a trackball and you can point with your thumb, do not try to use this mouse for gaming. Getting a mouse to aim accurately at your target is a chore, and before you know what hit you, you'll see that you're split into that unrealistic tournament deathmatch. But if gaming isn't your bag and you need a superior trackball, the Logitech TrackMan marble wheel is an excellent choice that is sure to last you for a few reasons.

I use computers a great deal (and used to work with them on a professional basis) and this led to my developing wrist and hand pain from operating keyboard and mouse. Part of the fix for me was to replace my ergonomic mouse with a Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse. I LOVE this pointing device!
It is comfortable and "falls readily to hand" as it were, it never gets jerky, jumpy, or stuck since it is fully optical, and it is incredibly smooth. My wrist/hand pain went away! As a bonus, I LOVE playing games with this device. Manipulating your character in games like Quake, Heretic or Ultima IX is so much more natural using the thumb-ball on the trackman than it used to be using a mouse...
It's easy to feel much more directly connected to the game, to be less conscious of the presence of a pointing device. As a last note, the quality is great. Mine is now three years old and going strong, with no degradation of any sort. If anything, Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse is better with use -- the ball and the surface on which it rests have become more polished and silkier over time!
The newer silver models and the m570 both had too high of an arch for my hand, and the L/R mouse buttons were too close together to operate comfortably. When mine finally stopped working reliably 5 years ago I tore apart an m570 and repackaged the parts inside. It was a lot of work but worth it. It's great for gaming once you're used to it, and once you are used to it you'll never want to use a mouse again.
Nice ergonomic shape, making use intuitive. I got it because of the scrolling capability and got a nice comfy tool. All the controls are smooth and the movements are smooth---a far cry from my old trackball which necessitated backing and filling to get the pointer to go anywhere with accuracy. It even has noticeable mileage on it, making its performance all the more noteworthy.
I enjoy using this trackball for long periods of time. It doesn't strain my hand as my palm rests comfortably over the trackball. The trackball is extremely efficient to use in maneuvering around the computer screen. I can clean Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse by putting a paper clip end to unlock the ball. This is nice because debris and residue can build up immediately underneath the ball.
I have had my trackball for about 9 years nine, and it still works like a gem. I switched to a trackman with the thumb all many years ago and have had no trouble since. The positioning of the ball allows for the hand and arm to be totally supported in a relaxed position. I recommend also paying attention to the positioning of the chair arm.

When the mouse and chair arm is properly positioned the comfort is fantastic, especially for long hours. I find using the thumb rather than the fingers easier on the wrist and forearm, as well as more accurate. Finger balls tend to be larger and heavier to move while the muscle is smaller and the movement awkward. The thumb position solves this as well as you could ever hope to.
Regular cleaning is easy (and advised). If your Trackman starts slowing down or skipping, you need to clean it. I use a lot of hand lotion. This and lint tend to collect on the inside points where the ball touches but is no problem to clean out. Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel Trackball Mouse is a sturdy product that lasts for many many years. This was by far the high point in Logitech's engineering prowess with the Trackman series.
