The Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel provides you with unprecedented desktop flexibility. Digital radio technology allows it to work without being pointed at the computer.
So even on crowded desks, you can use it where and how you want. Work anywhere within a 6-foot radius of the receiver. Optical technology delivers superior precision and performance for detailed work and smooth tracking for longer use. The Logitech cordless wheel boasts long battery life and includes a battery indicator to warn you when the battery is low.
Software updates are available for download at Logitech.com.Here's a trackball that fits comfortably into your right hand, with its buttons and scroll wheel at your fingertips and a smooth trackball right underneath your thumb. USB or PS/2.While I have not tested THIS mouse with 8.1, all other mice seem to work without any problem whatsoever.
When I plug the Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel mouse into WinXP or into Win7, I do NOT have to have a CD to make the OS recognize the Mouse. What can I say, the older Trackman Wheel and Trackman Marble devices are far superior to the new ones. The M570 is absolute junk and dries quickly, but this oldie is definitely a goody. The switches are solid unlike the newer ones and are replaceable.

This is my second Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel mouse. The first was the corded version. It worked seamlessly for many years. I eventually passed it on to another eager owner. Due entirely to my decision to upgrade to the wireless world. I purchased a Logitech cordless keyboard (another story) & the Logitech cordless trackball. The cordless version is similar to the older corded version.
Most of the functions remain the same. The ball is easier to clean in that you can simply pop it out of the socket by inserting a pencil eraser from below & giving it a little nudge. In the older corded version, you had to remove a ring that retained the ball in place. The detent to turn the ring was tiny & not easy to use. So this is an improvement in that area.
The software was easy to load, directions were simple & the software worked the first time out. When the battery loses power the functions on the screen simply do not work as well in response to the ball commands, if at all. I have discovered the easiest way to change the battery is to take the trackball to another room, out of range of the receiver, swap out the battery & return to your computer.
The trackball works seamlessly once again. You do not have to power down the computer nor relink the trackball to the receiver. I would categorize the piece as very easy to load, use, & completely reliable. I much prefer the ergonomics & functionality of the trackball vs a conventional mouse in any version. One caveat, keep spare batteries around. This is the best pointing device I have ever owned. Much better than a mouse, and leagues better than the Microsoft trackball I used before this one.
I bought the TrackMan because I was experiencing some fatigue on my right shoulder from using my mouse so much. I had used a trackball before (the Microsoft I mentioned previously), but never liked it because the ball kept sticking. I wanted to try another trackball rather than another mouse. I read the reviews here and decided on the Logitech TrackMan. I was not disappointed.
The feel is very comfortable, and the action is smooth. The supplied driver software allows plenty of customization of the buttons and pointer speed. I love the acceleration feature. I have two monitors, and getting the pointer from one to the other is a breeze. The TrackMan was so easy to install. It started working as soon as I had installed the battery and plugged the wireless receiver into my computer, even before I had installed the driver or pressed the 'communicate' buttons!
The driver software provides superb functionality, so I do advise using it even if the Trackman will work without it. If you are used to using a mouse, you may need a little time to become proficient with the trackball, but in the end, I believe this is the way to go. All in all, I am completely happy with this device. Since my desk exists in various states of [dis]organization, I grew weary of unearthing my cord to move the mouse, even a couple of inches.
Frequently, the Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel mouse slipped between book pages or dragged a desk accessory to its demise to the floor. When I found this mouse, I couldn't wait to get it. It replaces its identical Logitech corded cousin, so there was no learning curve, except for remembering that I had the freedom to roam! Installation to my PC was effortless and there were no issues. The receiver is quite large, as noted by one reviewer, but it is fine for a desktop-like mine.

Update:
This is my favorite Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel mouse! I'm on my third one (over a 20 year period) and will be very disappointed if they ever discontinue it. I'm picky about the keyboard and mouse matching. Literally, the only reason I want this mouse vs the M570 is because it's silver and will match the Logitech K750 keyboard.
