Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse

The Expert Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse gives you the freedom to be hyper-productive without being limited by a USB cable.

The trackball can be paired through Bluetooth 4. 0 LE to save a valuable USB port, or connected via a USB Nano receiver. Kensington Works software offers incredible customization, and optical tracking technology offers smooth, precise cursor control. Plus, our award-winning Scroll Ring lets you quickly scan up and down web pages or long documents.

Add it all up and you get exceptional comfort and ease-of-use from the brand that has set the industry standard in trackballs for more than 20 years. Even better than holding the SHIFT key, you can scroll horizontally ONE-HANDED: Assign one of the additional buttons to activate the SHIFT key using the included KENSINGTON TRACKBALLWORKS software.

I recommend using the Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse opposite your thumb so you can use your thumb to scroll horizontally. So, for those RIGHT- handed assign SHIFT to the TOP RIGHT button, for LEFT- handed assign SHIFT to the TOP LEFT button. This works on Windows and Mac OS X. The scroll ring does have some sort of slight detent (clicks), although I don't know if each click correlates with a singular action, i.e., scrolling from picture to picture in your case.

Get Product Review:

I've been using trackballs ever since I got my first Mac Performa in 1995. Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse personal choice thing, but after all these many years I have no carpal tunnel and I don't have to have the extra mousing space on my keyboard tray. I type reports for a living, so I spend at least 8 hours every day at my computer. For the past 13-15 years I have been using a PCAlly Glitterball trackball, which has functioned remarkably well (probably because the ball is heavy for its size and is on steel rollers), but lately, the old Glitterball's right mouse button has become somewhat sporadic in response, so I decided to try something new and see if I could get used to it.

I bought one of the Logitech M570's but alas the ball was not heavy and it seemed somewhat "scratchy" and was hard for me to move it smoothly. Plus, the ball was too small for me— I have large hands, and I'm used to hovering my fingers over the ball and moving it with my hand instead of finger pinching. So I bought this Kensington Expert Trackball Mouse, and my first impressions are quite good.

Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse took my Mac a few seconds to latch onto it for use, but now it's working just fine right out of the box. I have not installed any software (will look into that to see if it would be useful for me). The ball is LARGE, very large. And the one I bought moves as smooth as silk right out of the box. Because my keyboard tray is positioned pretty low, I am more comfortable using the wrist rest, it seems. (time will tell).

The ball platform and the ball are both heavy and I like it that way, it seems to allow the ball to move more fluidly. The left and right-click buttons are just where I need them to be too. I wasn't sure how I would like the scrolling ring, but I think it's going to do OK for me, once I get used to it; it was a little noisy and scratchy feeling right at the onset but has become smoother and quiet over the past few hours of use.

I was really skeptical, but I wanted to take my video editing more seriously. Now I realize Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse is not only about editing. Every action on my computer is easier. Plus I love simplicity. No more mouse pad or open space is needed to roll a mouse around. This ends up being so much more accurate and easy to use. Imagine just the wave of a finger instead of moving your whole hand around the table like a neanderthal.

That should be their tagline. Don't be a savage. Get a trackball. Haha. For video editing, it was simple to assign keys and it sped up my editing a lot. It took me about a day to get used to the new format. I still switch back and use a mouse when I travel and it's fine. I just realize how cumbersome it is. If you're looking to make a switch, go for it. Such is life. Don't get married to things just because it's the way you've always done it. Take a risk. Throw the trackball away if you don't like it.

It felt great right away. I have it (with the wrist guard attached) right next to my KB on the sliding KB tray on my desk. I installed the Kensington Trackball software and liked it even more. I adjusted the speed and acceleration to my liking. set the 4 buttons to left-click, right-click, middle-click, and drag (allowing you to click once, drag items then click again to release).

I also set it so that pressing the top two buttons copies, and the bottom two pastes. There are many more cool options you can use instead of these if you like. So many that I kind of had a hard time deciding which cool shortcuts to use. I may still switch it up since copy and paste are easily accessible via KB shortcut. The scroll wheel is great. A little "scratchy" as some say, but Kensington K72359WW Wireless Trackball Expert Mouse doesn't bother me at all.
